Game Preview: North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The North Carolina Tar Heels are set to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish later today in an ACC Conference showdown. The Tar Heels are traveling to South Bend, Indiana to play new conference members Notre Dame. Notre Dame joined the ACC this year along with Pitt and Syracuse.

Today’s game will be the 21st meeting between these two teams. The last game resulted in a 102-87 win for the Tar Heels in the 2008 Maui Invitation. North Carolina leads the series with sixteen wins and just four losses to the Notre Dame. Head coach Roy Williams is also undefeated against Notre Dame, but has only played the Fighting Irish once (2008).

So far this season the Tar Heels are 15-7 and have gone 5-4 in ACC conference play. North Carolina sits sixth in conference standings after a four-game winning streak.

Notre Dame is 12-11 on the season so far and has gone 3-7 in ACC conference play. The Fighting Irish are 12th in the conference standings sitting 6.5 games back.

Marcus Paige remains the Tar Heels leading scorer with 17.1 points per game and he also leads the team in assists with 4.5 per game. Paige is also shooting .363% from behind the arc leading the team in three point shooting as well.

JP Tokoto leads the Tar Heels in steals with 36, but Paige and James Michael McAdoo aren’t far behind with 31.

Brice Johnson has played some solid defense lately for North Carolina. Johnson has 27 blocks, McAdoo has 23, and freshman Kennedy Meeks has 19 blocks this season.
