Cayson Collins of Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte, NC signed his letter of intent to play football for the University of North Carolina today. Collins is a three-star prospect out of Charlotte who projects as an outside linebacker for UNC in the coming years. Collins committed to the Tar Heels on April 14th, 2013, picking the Heels over Duke and NC State. Collins is UNC’s second outside linebacker prospect, joining three-star prospect Malik Carney.
40 Time: 5.23
Rank: 56th Positional, 27th State
Rating: Three-Star (ESPN)
Hometown: Charlotte, NC
Collins is a physical linebacker who punishes running backs and wide receivers. He needs polish, and must improve his speed and strength, but has good instincts at the linebacking position. Collins also showed flashes of being productive in pass coverage in third downs in high school. I also liked how Collins was able to get off blocks and make plays in the running game.
Overall, Cayson Collins’s strong tackling skills will make him a productive special teams player from day one on campus. With time, Collins will develop into a very productive linebacker for North Carolina.
