UNC Basketball: Historical Games and Moments against NC State
March 7th, 1959: With N.C.State serving one of the many NCAA probations it would receive over the years, the Tar Heels had already clinched the ACC’s NCAA Tournament bid before playing the ACC Tournament final. Knowing this Coach Frank McGuire would bench his starters early in the first half to rest for the tournament. Upset because of this N.C.State fans went to the basement of the Reynolds Coliseum and turn off the lights, the game would be delayed for 8 minutes. The Wolfpack would rout the Heels 80-56 and the Heels would lose their opening round game against underdog Navy three days later.
