UNC Basketball: Lady Tar Heels rise to sixth in AP Top-25 poll

If there is one basketball team in Chapel Hill to have some real excitement behind it, it is the women’s basketball team led by head coach Sylvia Hatchell. Despite not being able to coach so far this season, Hatchell’s team has marched on and continues to dominate this season.

Hatchell who hopes to return by March has seen her team rise above expectations in the past month. Now the Lady Tar Heels are back on the move in the AP top-25 poll. The Tar Heels have climbed up the ladder to the sixth position in the rankings.

This season the Tar Heels have just been a nightmare for most opponents. They are 17-3 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. They are just 1.5 games behind first place the No. 3 Duke Blue Devils and sitting third in the conference standings.

They’ve handled tough teams including No. 10 South Carolina, No. 15 Nebraska, No. 18 Florida State, and  No. 20 NC State. However No. 4 Tennessee, No. 8 Maryland and Arizona State got the best of them. Those are the only three losses this season so far for North Carolina.
