You can now add “former student” in front of PJ Hairston’s name in addition to “former basketball star” as ABC11 reported yesterday evening that Hairston is no longer enrolled as a student at UNC-Chapel Hill.

He was dismissed from the basketball team weeks prior to Christmas after inconsistencies with his stories were found in the school’s own investigation of Hairston. Hairston of course had continuous legal issues throughout the summer and his eligibility with the NCAA was put into question by his actions.

UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham released the following statement after the dismissal of Hairston:

“Unfortunately P.J. made a number of mistakes that placed his eligibility at risk and the University’s joint review with the NCAA made it clear that seeking reinstatement for P.J. would not be possible.”

He remained on the bench with his fellow teammates for one game before moving on.

Hairston is rumored to be entering the upcoming NBA D-League player pool in the next few weeks to continue playing basketball and work his way into the NBA without having a collegiate option. He has spent that past few weeks in Chicago after posting on Twitter that his dreams were now in front of him and his next stop was Chicago.
