Tar Heels in the Pro's: January Update

A lot of former Tar Heels are doing a lot of good things in the pros as of late. There are three Heels remaining in the NFL playoffs, while two former UNC point guards are tearing it up in the NBA. Here is an update on some Tar Heels in the Pro’s.

Kevin Reddick, Sylvester Williams, Cam Thomas

There are three former Tar Heels playing on teams that remain in the NFL playoffs. Kevin Reddick and the New Orleans Saints will take on the Seahawks this weekend in the NFC playoffs. Reddick is a key special teams player for the Saints, and had 12 tackles this season for the Saints.

Meanwhile in the AFC, Cam Thomas’s Chargers and Sly Williams’s Broncos will face off in Denver. Both Thomas and Williams are interior lineman for their respective teams and have had good seasons helping their teams to the playoffs. Keep an eye out for these former Tar Heels as you are watching the NFL playoffs this weekend!

Kendall Marshall

Marshall was forced into the starting lineup for the Lakers after injuries had ravaged the team’s backcourt, but the former Tar Heel has responded well and put up some great numbers for the Purple and Gold. In his debut as starter, Marshall racked up 20 points and 15 assists in a 110-99 victory over Utah. Kendall is also averaging a double double, 15.7 points and 12.7 assists, in January as he leads the Lakers. Marshall plays Friday at 10:30 against Reggie Bullock and the Clippers on ESPN.

Ty Lawson

Lawson is in the midst of a breakout year for the Denver Nuggets and is improving every game under first year Head Coach Brian Shaw. In his past five games, Ty is averaging 19.6 points per game and 11.0 assists. He is also setting career highs for averages in points, rebounds, and assists so far in the season. You can check out Lawson on TNT Thursday night as he takes on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
