ACC Football | Florida State Seminoles head football coach Jimbo Fisher has signed a new contract with the university that will keep him at the school for another five years through the 2019 football season.
According to USA Today Sports, Fisher is expected to speak today in a press-conference when the team arrives for the BCS Championship Game in California.
Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox released the following statement:
“We are extremely pleased with the direction of our program and believe that this new contract will assure that Coach Fisher is in place to lead the Seminoles for a long time to come. Coach Fisher enjoys the full support of the leadership of the university and we look forward to the continued success of our football program on the field and in the classroom.”
Fisher’s new contract will make him one of the highest paid coaches in college football with some $4 million per year plus incentives being reported as the new deal.
After Alabama head football coach Nick Saban signed his new contract to remain at Alabama, Fisher became the next big name in the Texas Longhorns’ search for a new head coach. This new contract clearly takes Fisher out of the equation for Texas.
