Here are 5 Keys to Victory for North Carolina in the Belk Bowl.
1) Pressure Brendon Kay
Kay is much more vulnerable on the move and out of the pocket in Cincy’s passing attack. North Carolina has to find a way to bring pressure on Kay and force him into making quick throws and mistakes on Saturday.
2) Feed Eric Ebron
In Eric Ebron’s last game for UNC, the Heels have to feed their big man the ball early and often. Ebron is almost like a low post player setting up on the block- UNC has to just get him the ball in space and let him run and do the rest. Ebron is the most talented player UNC has on offense, and they have to use him that way in the game later today.
3) Establish Read-Option
North Carolina’s read option plays have thrived under Marquise Williams in the second half of the season. UNC must establish those runs with TJ Logan as halfback to keep the linebackers guessing and to open up the passing game. The Tar Heels should look to establish that read option play early in the game.
4) Win Special Teams
Ryan Switzer is a huge weapon on special teams for North Carolina, and the Heels have to let Switz get some chances to make some magic on Saturday afternoon in Bank of America Stadium. Also, the kicking and punting battle will be key in this game. Tommy Hibbard and Thomas Moore will have to turn in flawless performances to aid the Heels to victory.
5) Feed off the “home” crowd
North Carolina is playing in their home state and will have a good home crowd there in support. The game is also a homecoming affair for QB Marquise Williams and many other Heels from Charlotte. UNC has to feed off this energy and outplay the Bearcats to get a “W.” Lack of energy was a big problem in the Independence Bowl in 2011, hopefully that energy problem won’t be an issue on Saturday.
In front of a strong Carolina blue presence, the Heels jump out to a 10 point lead behind Marquise William’s strongest half of the season. After halftime, UNC holds on to the lead and wins a wild one 28-24. Eric Ebron catches two touchdowns and TJ Logan rushes for over 100 yards as Coach Fedora gets his first bowl win at UNC.
