The North Carolina Tar Heels will face the Northern Kentucky Norse (???) on Friday night in the Dean E. Smith Center. Before we get any farther, we have to address just what a “Norse” is. From the Northern Kentucky “Campus Terminology” page- “Norse – NKU nickname. To us, it means really great students and sports teams; literally, it means “speakers of any of the North Germanic languages.” NKU’s mascot is a viking looking guy, and their team logos are centered around a Viking theme.
Back to basketball now. This game should be an easy win for North Carolina, but every time we say that, UNC plays down to their competition and performs poorly. You just never know with this UNC team. NKU is a notch below the Belmonts and UABs of the college basketball universe-the Norse (plural Norses?) rank no higher than 234th nationally in Points, Rebounds, Assists, and Field Goal % per game. So on paper, you can give this game to the Tar Heels. However, as I said earlier, you just never know with this UNC team. Here is some more information on tonight’s UNC Northern Kentucky game.
