For the first time in the Larry Fedora era, the North Carolina Tar Heels are going bowling. After serving a one year bowl ban after infractions from former head coach Butch Davis, the Tar Heels eagerly await the post season! So where could North Carolina be playing in December or January?
Schlabach’s colleague at ESPN, Brad Edwards, projects North Carolina accepting a bowl bid to play Cincinatti in the Belk Bowl. The Belk Bowl is familiar territory for UNC who last played in the Belk Bowl in 2009 when it was known as the Meineke Car Care Bowl. The Tar Heels lost to Pitt, 19-17, but should they return to Charlotte for the bowl game, look to leave this time as a winner. CBS joins ESPN in this Belk Bowl prediction, however Athlon Sports believes that the Tar Heels will meet Houston in Charlotte.
Advocare V100 Bowl
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach predicts that the Tar Heels will accept an invitation to play in the Advocare V100 Bowl against the Washington State Cougars. Previously known as the Independence Bowl, the Advocare V100 Bowl will take place in Shreveport, Louisiana. However, this predictions if the least popular as most projections have UNC going to the Belk Bowl. Bleacher Report also reported that UNC would accept a Belk Bowl invitation should they receive one.
North Carolina could have been contenders for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, however they had to defeat Duke last weekend among other things in order to qualify.
