Just yesterday, class of 2014 shooting guard Rashad Vaughn announced that he was going to postpone his scheduled visit to North Carolina this weekend. Vaughn would like to attend a basketball game while on his official visit and will visit sometime later this year. Vaughn attended the Duke game in Chapel Hill earlier this year and nearly committed, but this announcement didn’t stop fans from panicking or getting upset.
Today, according to Adam Zagoria, Vaughn has cut his list of schools down to seven that he will be considering scholarship offers from.
It’s a tough blow for the Wildcats, but after John Calipari went all in on Devin Booker, it allowed other schools to take advantage and Vaughn took note.
Vaughn’s parents have been meeting with schools themselves on behalf of the 6-5, 203 point shooting guard. They’ve met with Iowa State and Minnesota coaches over the weekend and on Monday. Over the summer they welcomed in-home visits from North Carolina’s Roy Williams, Baylor and Kansas.
The recruitment of Vaughn is up in the air and many fans have no idea what to expect from him when it comes time for him to make a decision. The most popular opinion appears to be that he will decide between Kansas and North Carolina. Memories of Andrew Wiggins could come back for both fan bases, especially UNC’s that saw Wiggins decide on Kansas.
Iowa State has also left his parents quite impressed and could be playing spoiler in his recruitment to the other big profile schools that are pursuing Vaughn.
UNC fans are already weary on Vaughn saying that he goes back and forth and makes too many decisions that don’t favor UNC. It’s worth noting here that the only thing he has gone back on is a near commitment to UNC, but he wanted his parents to be more involved in his recruitment. Nothing to worry about, so keep calm!
