2014 shooting guard Rashad Vaughn has postponed his visit to Chapel Hill that was scheduled for this weekend according to Inside Carolina. The website tweeted shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday that the 6-5, 203 pound Minnesota native had canceled his scheduled visit with UNC.
As for the reason why, according to Edgar Walker of the Daily Tar Heel, Vaughn’s mentor Pete Kaffey informed Evan Daniels that the young five-star guard has delayed his visit to Chapel Hill because he would like to attend a game during his visit.
Immediate reaction to the announcement upset many fans, who immediately began to bash head coach Roy Williams for “not being a good head coach” and securing the top recruits to come to UNC. All of that criticism despite the fact that UNC has the No. 1 recruiting class for the 2014 season.
Vaughn, by some, is even accused of playing games and urges Coach Williams to simply “move on.”
The five-star guard nearly committed at the end of last season on an unofficial visit and despite pushing his official visit back, I think still has a great deal of interest in the Tar Heels. I think it’s easy for fans to feel frustrated, and it’s easy for them to overlook his near commitment and the fact that he’s postponed his visit so that he can attend a game. Experiencing a North Carolina game is just a small part of the campus experiment and is important for a potential player to experience that atmosphere.
Don’t panic so soon, this is his future and Vaughn has to make the right choice for himself in terms of a career and education. There is a need for him on our roster and he will have a big role on it should he commit to UNC. It takes times to make an important decision and when the time is right, we will know whether or not Vaughn will be a part of the Carolina legacy one day.
