It has been four seasons since the North Carolina Tar Heels have found victory against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets when they last defeated them 28-7, but after last year’s high scoring defeat the Tar Heels would love to revenge that loss by stunning the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech’s Triple Option Offense
Despite mediocre records in previous seasons, one of the toughest offenses to play against is Paul Johnson’s triple option offense at Georgia Tech. Defenders never know which way the ball will be moving or thrown in and it sends the defense scrambling all over the field for the tackle.
North Carolina has struggled defensively this season and has to establish dominance early before Georgia Tech’s offense figures it out and begins to take the game away.
Senior offensive tackle James Hurst has had a good start to his last season in Chapel Hill. It began with dominating the match-up against Jadeveon Clowney against South Carolina and then earning ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Tar Heels defeated Middle Tennessee State. This week it’s important for Hurst to yet again have a good game.
Hurst needs to protect Bryn Renner and give him time to throw the ball. When Renner hands the ball off Hurst needs to lead his line to create openings and block the defensive line to allow Romar Morris and gang to get some good yardage on the run.
TJ Thorpe is sitting back in his dorm room this weekend to watch his teammates in Atlanta. Thorpe has suffered a minor injury and will watch the freshman athlete Ryan Switzer fill in his shoes this weekend.
Switzer has shown some serious potential already this season and continues to show Coach Fedora why he deserves more snaps, and has gotten a decent number of them too. Look for Switzer to take advantage of the opportunity and shine on the gridiron against the Yellow Jackets.
