North Carolina wide receiver and punt returner will be in Chapel Hill this weekend while his teammates travel down to Atlanta to play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this weekend.
“Not making the trip to (Atlanta) with my bros today but I know they will hold it down until next week,” Thorpe posted on his Twitter account earlier today.
His injury was kept undisclosed and we do not know just how long the injury could potentially sideline Thorpe, but we do know it’s Coach (Larry) Fedora’s policy not to discuss injuries or even make them public unless a player has suffered a season ending injury.
Earlier in the week when it was discovered that Thorpe had not practiced with the team, rumors of a suspension began to circulate the Carolina forums. A source within the football program did however anonymously confirm that Thorpe has and will not be suspended and that he was just limited in practice because of some minor injuries.
The freshman utility athlete Ryan Switzer is expected for fill into both of the rolls for Thorpe playing both wide receiver and would return the ball for North Carolina on punts. Switzer has played both positions at various times for North Carolina, but because of Thorpe’s injuries will get some playing time this weekend against Georgia Tech.
