Will new bye week approach help rid UNC of its Yellow Jacket blues?

There’s a generally accepted belief around the ACC that it’s an advantage to have a bye week before playing Georgia Tech and its confounding triple option offense.

It’s a theory that has at least some basis of fact, considering that the Yellow Jackets are only 5-12 in the Paul Johnson era against opponents that had extra time to prepare.

But it sure hasn’t helped North Carolina.

Giovani Bernard not looking for attention, just wins

During last night’s win over the Steelers, it seemed no one could get a hand on Bengals rookie Giovani Bernard.

After the game, everyone wanted a piece of him.

But after a breakout performance on a national stage, the young running back tried to shrug the spotlight off himself.

“It’s always good to get a win,” Bernard said, via Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “That’s how I am, I have always been the type of guy to always want to win. Personal statistics aren’t that much to me. We came out with a win and we needed this one.”

Matt Harvey makes visit to Dr. James Andrews

Mets ace Matt Harvey hasn’t pitched since Aug. 24 and has been shut down for the remainder of 2013 because of a partially torn UCL in his throwing elbow. For some time now, the plan has been for Harvey to receive an informed second opinion and then decide whether to attempt rest and rehab or undergo the perhaps-inevitable Tommy John surgery.
