Late Night with Roy has always been about celebrating the upcoming season with the players, fans, students, coaches and of course Roy Williams himself. A year ago at this time, Late Night with Roy meant something even bigger to the school. This was when they found out Coach Williams didn’t have cancer after all. It was a heartwarming and fun filled night with everyone who was involved at Chapel Hill.
The impact that Late Night with Roy has on recruits is pretty significant. They get a chance to see some of the players on the team out of their element doing funny skits or dances. They get to see the coaches in a different setting than they previously have during campus visits, games, or practices that they have attended. The basketball team also squares off in a blue vs. white basketball game amongst the incoming team. This gives the fans a sneak preview of some of the players who they may not have seen before today. It also gives everyone a chance to see the returning players from last season.
The recruits get to see what the University of North Carolina is all about aside from just the basketball setting that they’re used to. It has a significant impact on some of their decisions when it comes time to declare what school they want to play for. It gives the players a chance to really interact with one another and to see if this team is a good fit for their personalities. There isn’t a better way to show recruits what the University of North Carolina Basketball is really about than Late Night with Roy.
