Last season the North Carolina Tar Heels celebrated Military Appreciation Day and unveiled a patriotic look to the field at Kenan Memorial Stadium. This year, the Tar Heels will change their look on the field to honor our nation’s heroes.
Military Appreciation Day is September 28th at Kenan Stadium when the Tar Heels take on the East Carolina Pirates. This year they will wear a special white based helmet with red, white, and blue featured in different places on the helmet. The interlocked NC has the American flag pattern used as its background color while the middle of the helmet shows a red strip surrounded by blue, star filled stripes.
Head coach Larry Fedora ordered a full overhaul of the Tar Heels uniforms for the 2013 season bringing a drastic change using Nike’s Combat Pro style. Included in the change were black uniforms. The Tar Heels then proceeded to change their end zone decor this season well. Bringing the argyle made famous by Dean Smith in 1992, you can now find it on the football field in both end zones at Kenan.
This year, the Military Appreciation Day uniforms, at least the helmets anyways, are getting an overhaul too. Last season The patriotic interlocking NC was used, but this year the helmet was completely designed from scratch.
