The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced UNC’s James Hurst as the ACC offensive lineman of the week for September 9th.
The 6-7, 305 poun tackle from Plainfield, Indiana put on a great performance against South Carolina and Jadeveon Clowney last week and played a great game this week against Middle Tennessee State.
Hurst played 80 snaps and graded out at 92 percent in North Carolina’s 40-20 victory over Middle Tennessee. Carolina gained 511 total yards of offense and scored 40 points for the sixth time under Larry Fedora. Hurst posted 12 knockdown blocks and did not allow a sack or a quarterback pressure.
Hurst is projected early on to be the top draft pick out of the seniors and projected early departures from Larry Fedora’s Tar Heels in the 2014 NFL Draft. Hurst is a senior and has provided excellent blocking and protection in his time with North Carolina.
The showdown between Hurst and South Carolina’s Clowney was hyped up a great deal but Clowney’s lack of conditioning didn’t make it much of a challenge for Hurst to guard him in the week one match-up.
