The Miami Hurricanes have their head basketball coach signed and locked into place through the 2022 season. Jim Larranaga signed a three year contract extension earlier this morning making it a nine year deal with the Hurricanes.
Larranaga will be 64 years old years old next year and the new extension seems to lock him in place for the rest of his coaching career.
“It has always been my goal to compete at the very highest level, so I am fortunate, and humbled, that I will be able to pursue this opportunity for the remainder of my career,” Larranaga said in a released statement.
Larranaga and the Hurricanes stormed onto the college basketball scene last season winning the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament championships. It was the first regular season championship for Miami who finished the season with a 29-7 (15-3 ACC) record.
Miami finished the season ranked tenth in the coaches poll and fifth in the AP Poll. The Hurricanes not only beat NC State in both games last season, but they swept the North Carolina Tar Heels in all three meetings they had (including the ACC Tournament Finals).
Next season will be a tough one for Larranaga as he lost most of his team to graduation and the NBA Draft.
