After just two games in the early 2013 men’s soccer season, the North Carolina Tar Heels have moved into a familiar spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. After starting the season 2-0, the Tar Heels are now ranked as the best team in college soccer.
After their 4-null demolition of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Monday night, the Tar Heels gained three positions in the national polls to take over the top spot. UNC was suppose to play the Chanticleers on Sunday night, but severe weather delayed the game until Monday night.
North Carolina cruised to an easy 4-0 victory on Monday night against Coastal Carolina after scoring all four of their goals in an eighteen minute time period.
UNC is scheduled to take on the No. 4 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
Sunday’s match-up is not only unique as both are top-five ranked teams, but this will be the first meeting between the two universities. This will also be the first ACC conference match up for both schools as well as the first ACC game for the Fighting Irish as conference members.
Notre Dame joined the ACC this season as full-members in all sports except football as they wish to keep their independence on the gridiron.
