After one season at the University of North Carolina, that included a post-season ban, Larry Fedora was able to coach the Tar Heels to a solid 8-4 season. A season that had it not been for simple mistakes could have easily been a one loss season.
Now he has the chance for an ACC Championship and post-season bowl game to use a motivation, and that could be a useful resource for Fedora.
Zach Barnett of Football Scoop listed Larry Fedora and his staff third on his list of “10 staffs that will impress you this season.”
Miami is the chosen rising-from-NCAA-sanctioned-ashes program of the ACC leading into this season, but it was Larry Fedora’s Tar Heels that topped Miami and finished atop the Coastal Division standings last year. Fedora has a very strong staff. There is no way this program doesn’t continue to strengthen.
Miami will be a huge improvement no doubt, but I have doubts about just how good they will be indeed.
North Carolina also lost some key players, but they have solid second string players to fill in those roles in addition to their top-20 recruiting class.
It will be interesting to see just how much the Tar Heels improve in their second season. They have a solid schedule that kicks off with a tough South Carolina team. Obviously that is a big challenge right out of the gates, and regardless of the result, we’re looking at the efforts the Tar Heels show on the grid iron.
