Is Eric Ebron ready for the NFL? Well when the only two players to accumulate more yards in ACC history at the tight end position are NFL standouts Vernon Davis and Heath Miller, I would say Ebron has proven he is among the best players at his position.
During his sophomore season Ebron started in 11 games. He caught 40 passes for 625 yards and four touchdowns. His performance last season broke Tar Heel receptions and receiving yard records at the tight end position. His 625 receiving yards surpassed Mike Chatham’s 1979 record of 448 receiving yards for the Tar Heels.
Eric Ebron is built like a monster. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, he is a powerhouse at the tight end position. Not only is he big and can hold back defensive ends, he also has speed that wide receivers have. Eric Ebron has grown up around the game and loves to play football.
In high school, Ebron was a defensive end. He always wanted to get after the quarterback and ultimately the football. He has used this instinct and brought it to the tight end position. He can explode off of the line and snag any ball that is thrown to him. Whether it is bullet passes at his chest or high lobs, he has the hands to catch any pass tossed his way.
We can only expect to see better results from Ebron during his junior season. He has put on twenty pounds this summer and says he has not lost any of his speed. This makes him even more of a threat. Can he surpass records from Vernon Davis this season? I don’t see why not. The kid is motivated and ready to compete at his highest level.
Eric Ebron is a very coach-able athlete which helps him to keep getting better. Ebron’s coaches know that he has rare talent and genetics that can take him far in this game. This is why they are constantly on him and working him very hard during the off-season.
So, is Eric Ebron ready for the NFL? Well from his statistics it sure looks like he is, but he has this season to gain more experience and develop more traits as a tight end. Being one of the top tight ends in the country, he will have NFL scouts watching his every move this season and he has the capability to be a first round draft pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
