Four star running back Elijah Hood has decided to reopen his recruiting after the 5 -11, 224-pound prospect decommitted from Notre Dame earlier today. Hood had committed to the Fighting Irish on April 28 after visiting the campus in South Bend with his parents.
Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Hood is considered the No. 5 running back recruit in the 2014 class. His size enables him to pound between the tackles and he is very athletic. He runs a 4.28 40 and has the ability to cut outside and make people miss. He is a very shifty runner, especially for his size and is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield.
Hood is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina and plays for Charlotte Catholic High School. According to J.C. Shurburtt of 247Sports, the distance from home may have been a major factor in his decision to reopen his recruiting. Tom Loy with 247Sports believes the North Carolina Tar Heels may be the frontrunner to land his services, due to their hole at running back for the 2014 recruiting class.
This is bad news for the Irish because a talent like Hood is tough to lose, but this new development could be a game changer for the Tarheel football program.
