Jadeveon Clowney Could Miss Season Opener Against UNC

ESPN is reporting that South Carolina’s star defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney could miss the season opening game against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The reaction is obviously a welcomed one for Chapel Hill and the fans that may feel this game will be a tough battle with him on the field. However the feeling amongst South Carolina fans hasn’t changed. Some Gamecocks fans feel that Spurrier is just playing mind games to send mixed messages to the Tar Heels camp.

Steve Spurrier on Clowney’s injury:

“If (Clowney’s shoulder) doesn’t come around real soon, we may play without him the first game. … We’ve got a bunch of hurt guys who act like they are really hurt so right now they may not play,” he said according to ABC affiliate WOLO.

The 6’6″ and 274 pound defensive end is suffering from a bruised shoulder. Spurrier states that if he doesn’t return to camp soon, he could very well miss that first game.

Of course losing Clowney would change the dynamic of this game, but Spurrier’s squad is loaded with talent and will still present a tough challenge for their northern rivals.

Either way the bottom line for North Carolina is: prepare for one tough game regardless of Clowney’s status!
