North Carolina State’s leading rushing Shadrach Thornton has been charged with assault after allegedly assaulting a female in June.
Thornton was arrested just a day after PJ Hairston was arrested, but you wouldn’t know that as state and local media was mostly concerned with Hairston’s arrest rather than then Thornton’s. In fact, until this weekend, much of Thornton’s problems had never been discussed by the News and Observer or WRAL.
NC State head coach Dave Doeren is aware of the situation and released the following statement to the public:
“We were made aware of the situation in June and Shadrach was suspended immediately. We have certain standards that we want our players to live by, on and off the field, and he did not live up to those standards. He had to earn his way back into team activities.”
Thornton is due in court on the 22nd of this month in just a few short weeks. He has also participated in team activities this summer, despite a suspension.
Thornton was the Wolfpack’s leading rusher with 694 yards and only started four games last season because of ball control issues.
