UNC Football: The Importance of Defeating Georgia Tech

Over the past few seasons there has been many inconsistencies with the UNC football program. However one of the more consistent things has the Tar Heels losing to Georgia Tech, and if Carolina has any aspirations of winning the ACC Coastal Division they must avoid getting stung by the Yellow Jackets again.

Carolina has had a decent amount of success against most division foes but for some reason the boys from the ATL has given the Tar Heels a fit. UNC has lost 7 of the last 8 against Georgia Tech and on September 21 in Atlanta that must come to an end. Senior quarterback  Bryn Renner must find away to out duel Tech and their high-powered triple option offense and the Carolina defense will need to at least slow down the Yellow Jackets run game and get a couple of timely stops.

This game is important on and off the field. As head coach Larry Fedora rebuilds the Carolina program he can’t afford to allow one of his rivals to get a leg up which could be used against the heels in head to head recruiting battles. UNC has gotten a few commitments from players in the state of Georgia for the 2014 class and if they want that to continue a W against Georgia Tech is a good selling point to recruits that the schools bump heads on.

As far as the ACC Coastal Division its wide open. I’m sure Virginia Tech and maybe Miami will have something to about who ends up in Charlotte but this game will be one of the key one’s in deciding the division. The season wont’ make or break on the Georgia Tech game but this game is very important for all the reasons mentioned above but for UNC players and fans it would just be nice to beat the Yellow Jackets!
