The summer is a time for rest. Relaxation. Going to the beach even. As a Carolina fan, it’s a time of reflection of the year that has passed, and a time to look forward in anticipation of events to come.
I’m looking forward to watching Gio Bernard play pro football. I’m looking forward to seeing how he plans on topping his current most memorable moment (at least in my mind. A play that gets a coach fired has to at least garner consideration.)
I’m excited to see Coach Dorrance and the UNC Women’s Soccer team go for championship number 536. Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not by as much as you’d think. How can arguably the most dominant team in college sports history continue it’s unparalleled excellence?
Will Coach Shelton have a championship caliber Field Hockey team this coming year? I’d never bet against her or her squad. In any other school, what she’s been able to accomplish would be a hallmark of the athletic department. She is a very talented coach and consistently fields competitive teams.
How close will EA Sports’ NCAA 14 team ratings be to real life? If they are accurate, UNC may have a beast of a team on their hands. Football is one sport where not only do I not count my chickens before they hatch, I refuse to count the eggs or even acknowledge their existence. I have a very good feeling about Renner.
I don’t get into rumor and innuendo. Having said that, I’d like to see an in-tact basketball team this winter.
I’d like to see my toes in the sand at some point. I’d like to not hold my breath for dangerously extended periods of time, like I find myself doing during any given basketball game and during the fourth quarter of several football games as well.
Remembering taking my daughter to her first UNC game last year. Overtime bled into nap time, but she rallied well, thanks in no small part to playing “Jump Around” a second time.
Last year was a good year. In many respects, it could have been better. In many respects, it could have been much, much worse. I’m looking forward to next year. I’m looking forward to seeing the successes, failures, celebrations and heartache. But right now, I’m looking forward to a bit of a rest. I’ll be ready to roll in a couple weeks. I’ll be right back in there screaming like a maniac, unless the game bleeds into nap time. Then I’ll be whispering very loudly. But for now, I need to go find that sand. Just between you and me, I’ll probably bring my iPad so I can stay in the loop with the latest news. Don’t tell anyone. I’m supposed to be resting.
