Tar Heel’s in the Pro’s | One of my personal favorite Tar Heel alumni is former shooting guard Wayne Ellington. He made a ton of noise in Chapel Hill and had kept a low profile in the NBA. Bottom line…he’s a solid basketball player with great shooting ability.
After winning a national championship, Ellington went on to the NBA Draft where he was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009 where he spent his first three seasons. In 2012 he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies where he played 40 games. Last season he made just 38 appearances with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers who are trying to find the right formula to bring winning back to Cleveland decided not to make an offer to Ellington. (Quite frankly, without Lebron James you won’t do it Cleveland.) Thus making him an unrestricted free agent and leaving him to find a new team to play for.
However, the team remains to have interest in him, but they have yet to make him an offer.
Ellington expressed on Twitter how great free agency had started for him with teams apparently having a great deal of interest and some big teams at that. According to reports the Los Angeles Lakers may have interest in the sharp shooting Wayne Ellington.
I’m expecting Ellington to take a smaller offer from the Cavs, but I wouldn’t rule out the Lakers either!
