Eric Prisbell of USA Today reported this afternoon some information updating Carolina fans everywhere on the PJ Hairston case that has been withstanding for close to a month now. It was reported that the 2013 Yukon that PJ was driving on the night of his arrest, was rented by a man Haydn Thomas from Durham, NC.
Thomas claimed multiple times that he did not know PJ and wasn’t involved with the Tar Heel basketball program or NBA in any way, shape, or form. He stated that he had rented the car for himself before letting Miykaul Faulcon borrow the car. Faulcon was one of the two other people in the car with PJ and was taken into custody for possession of marajuana.
Thomas also had nothing to do with the confiscated drugs or gun that was later found accroding to the report and the results of who the gun indeed belongs to have yet to be released or identified.
Roy Williams stated in an interview a couple of weeks ago, that he was waiting for all the information before making his decision on how to handle PJ’s situation. Roy said that he had some ideas, but was not inclined to share those until after all the information had been presented to him and was in no hurry to make a decision during the summer when normal class schedules weren’t in session.
This news can be viewed as optimistic for Carolina fans if Thomas’s quotes about not knowing PJ or having any relation with the basketball program hold true. It is important to remember however, that nothing has been close to finalized and Hairstons’s status on next year’s team still remains a mystery.
Keeping it Heel will continue to update information as it comes available.
