UNC Football 2013: Bryn Renner Preview

Well summer has begun for most college students and shortly after that means one thing…FOOTBALL! So to get you ready for another exciting of North Carolina football led by Larry Fedora, the staff here at Keeping it Heel will be doing player profiles to get you familiar or re-familiar with some of the faces that will led our team to a Carolina Victory!

Bryn Renner comes off of another solid season as the starting quarterback. Last season he threw for 3,356 yards that included twenty-eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Considering the fact that he was learning an entirely new offensive unit, that is rather impressive from the now senior quarterback.

Now that he is more familiar with the “Fedora-spread” offensive and North Carolina is having to rely on a new first-string running back, we may see more plays from Renner.

This season however, while continuing to lead the Tar Heels on the field, Renner has added a new role. He will serve as a mentor the young and talented freshman quarterback from Mentor, Ohio; Mitch Trubisky. It’s highly predicted that when this season is over and done with and Renner graduates, Trubisky will take over the starting quarterback duties!

Renner chose North Carolina (with Butch Davis as head coach) in 2009 over Deleware, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. He was ranked the fifth best quarterback overall in his recruiting class according to Rivals.
