Despite the sanctions slammed against Larry Fedora in his first year at the University of North Carolina, the Tar Heels “unofficially” claimed the 2012 ACC Coastal Division Championship last season after a pretty solid season. Though they didn’t officially get credit for their honors, Fedora and the university felt these players worked hard and deserved recognition.
Their reward? Shiny new hardware!
Coach Fedora is right, the players deserve to be rewarded and that’s just what they got.
Fedora and the Tar Heels went 5-3 in ACC conference play last year and did finish first in the division. However, sanctions prevented them from officially winning any championships of any kind. Sanctions of course came down heavily in Chapel Hill after former coach Butch Davis and his staff were put under an investigation.
Now technically, North Carolina tied Miami, but both schools were ineligible to compete for the ACC Championship so Georgia Tech got to compete representing the Coastal Division. Miami however still faces some issues that North Carolina doesn’t for 2013.
With the 2013 season looming just around the corner, Fedora and the Tar Heels have their eyes on one thing. Winning the Coastal Division yet again. And this year, they can go big and seek the full reward for it.
