ESPN: UNC Football A Sleeper Pick

With key losses such as Jonathan Cooper and Sylvester Williams, it will take a lot of work for Larry Fedora to work with his players and get them to lead the team back to the great heights of 2012. So far, he’s not too shabby! He grabbed a top-25 ranked recruiting class for this fall and has tons of talent coming in.

ESPN’s Travis Haney has been doing some traveling recently and has talked with multiple coaches. He wrote that teams are taking very good note of the Tar Heels. Depiste many saying Ohio State is the team to watch (coming off of sanctions like North Carolina), he writes that UNC could make some rather big noise themselves.

Fedora said it begins with a focus on the Coastal Division, now that winning it can again return to the team’s list of goals. A division title means you’re a single win away from a BCS bowl, Fedora said. – ESPN

The Tar Heels just saw several of their players move to the NFL, including two in the first round of the draft. Fedora looks to continue to develop players so that one day his recruitment can reach their goal of playing in the NFL too!

Part of that process is to focus on winning the Coastal Division of the ACC for the second season in a row. While officially, UNC can’t claim that title last year because of the sanctions, they did in fact win the division. They look to do so this year, while aiming to potentially reach a BCS bowl!
