UNC Football Recruiting: Tar Heels Offer Travonte Valentine

Larry Fedora and the North Carolina Tar Heels are continuing their solid start to the 2014 football recruiting class. The Tar Heels have made a scholarship offer to four-star defensive tackle Travonte Valentine.

Valentine is a six foot, four inch and 297 defensive tackle from Palm Bay, Florida in the 2014 recruiting class.

In 2011 he piled up eighty tackles and twelve sacks. He was also named by a second team All American player.

Valentine has twenty-six scholarships offer. Outside of the Tar Heels, that list includes: Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Florida, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Washington, and West Virginia.

Valetine is being recruiting by one of Fedora’s recent off-season coaching hires, Keith Gilmore, who was hired a few months ago as the new defensive line coach for the Tar Heels. The heavy interest from Valentine in North Carolina’s football program is showing that the Gilmore hire is already paying off, at least in regards to recruiting. Gilmore held the same position at Illinois since 2009 and developed one of the nations best defensive lines with the Illini.
