UNC Basketball Recruiting: Andrew Wiggins Meeting with John Calipari

The saga that is the recruitment of Andrew Wiggins continues with a new report coming from Evan Daniels. Daniels is reporting that Kentucky head coach John Calipari will be meeting with Wiggins this afternoon.

Wiggins’ school, Huntington Prep, held a McDonald’s All American send off for Wiggins earlier this afternoon. Daniels reports that shortly after the send off, Calipari will be meeting one-on-one with the nation’s most recruited player.

At this point, I do not understand why anyone would commit to Kentucky. They have seven recruits coming in, all seven of which are ranked in the top-18. Just to make room for players, Calipari will have to get rid of scholarships and probably kick some players off his current team if none leave for the NBA draft or transfer.

A player of Wiggins’ caliber or any of these other players talent, would have to fight not only with each other, but with the already existing talent on the team for playing time.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing the talent Calipari has recruited, but it just doesn’t make sense to me why anyone would want to join a team with so much talent already when he has other options that would give him immediate playing time without competition.

Wiggins could land anywhere between Kansas and Florida State, and nobody has the slightest clue where he is leaning towards committing to. Despite which school you are a fan of, we all hope his decision is coming soon. Plus, Roy’s anxiety levels are probably rather high lately with the rumors floating around!
