UNC Basketball Recruiting: Rashad Vaughn Meets With Roy Williams, Commitment to Come?

The 2014 class is shaping up to be something special for the North Carolina Tar Heels.  Head coach Roy Williams has already secured two consensus five star prospects in point guard Joel Berry of Florida and guard/forward Justin Jackson of Texas.  Adam Zagoria is reporting that UNC is meeting with another stud in the 2014 class Minnesota’s Rashad Vaughn.

Vaughn’s assistant high school basketball coach Pete Kaffey confirmed the meeting.  Vaughn is a big time prospect who fits the Carolina system like a glove.  UNC currently has three offers out to uncommitted perimeter prospects in the 2014 class with Theo Pinson and Devin Booker also holding offers.  However, Roy has made it clear that he has one spot open and it will likely be first come, first serve as all three players would be welcome additions with Vaughn as the best option.

Vaughn is the #1 shooting guard in the 2014 class according to ESPNs rankings.  Vaughn is a big guard with the potential to play both wing positions at the next level.  He has a nice handle and can get to the rim with ease and use his body to finish in the lane.  A big time shooter putting him along side Jackson would be a dangerous combination of shooters.  UNC currently has the #1 ranked 2014 recruiting class, adding Vaughn would go a long way in keeping it that way for a while.

I’m still confused on y it would be only one more wing player he would want to get?! By that time what other wings will we have on the roster? Mcdonald would be gone if i’m correct just Tokoto left? Seems like he would try to get Vaugh or one of the other 2 and then maybe a lower ranked 4 star type guy for a little added depth right b/c I’m sure Pinson/Booker will go to another team if Vaugh picks UNC 1st.

that was my thinking as well… my guess is roy will take two. perhaps hes just pressuring recruits to believe he may only take one, as to firm up a commitment allowing the #2 wing to take his time. neverthelss, if i were roy, i would take a commitment from one other wing not named vaughn… but i would def hold one spot for vaughn.

Haha I scrolled down here to make a scarily similar comment. I think either Vaughn or Pinson as a primary target, and Booker as a more role player that would develop into a star would be perfect. I think Vaughn, Pinson, and Jackson will be more developed and potentially NBA ready early in their careers than Booker would, so I would love for Roy to land Booker along side one of the other guys. Idk the chances of that, but that would be my dream scenario.

He is only looking for one wing player right now because he’s “assuming” PJ will still be on scholarship and doesn’t want to get ahead of himself. He will more than likely go grab another wing player, but don’t expect UNC to land both Vaughn and Pinson or Booker.

roy has already told all three guys he has one scholarship left, the first to commit thats the one hes taking.
