NFL Draft 2013: Gio Bernard Wants to Play Every Down

With workouts on going and the 2013 NFL Draft just weeks away, Giovanni Bernard is working hard to prove to all thirty-two teams that he is the best option for their team at the running back position.

Bernard has made it clear however that he doesn’t intend on being a second string back nor does he intend to sit out on plays. Bernard feels that he is an every down, first string running back. While man feel he is a second string quarterback for the time being, Bernard clearly doesn’t agree with that evaluation.

He was asked that question about being a featured running back, and you can read it in his own words.

“Heck yeah,” Bernard said. “I don’t want to come off the field.”

His durability is questioned by several analysts because he wasn’t an every down back at North Carolina in his two seasons here. he also missed the entire 2010 season after suffering an ACL tear.

In 2011 he rushed for 1,253 yards and scored thirteen touchdowns. Last season he rushed for 1,228 yards (sharing the duties with AJ Blue and Romar Morris) and scored twelve touchdowns. In 2012 he also scored the game winning touchdown on a punt return against North Carolina State to give the Tar Heels their first win in five seasons against the Wolfpack.
