Four Corners NCAA Tournament Edition: Bitter Sweet Sixteen Begins Thursday

Watching the sweet sixteen with have a bitter taste to it as the Tar heels are sitting at home and I cannot look toward future match ups posting questions about how North Carolina will fair.  The sweet sixteen looks more like preseason tournaments across the country and the West is closer to the Puerto Rico Shootout than a mini tournament with a shot at the final four.  In this weeks edition of four corners we provide a snippet from each region where four teams will reach the final four in Atlanta.

One:  You can tell how whacky a region is based on the number of questions you can answer about a team.  When I look at LaSalle and Wichita State who square off for a spot in the elite eight I can only thank Google for being there to comfort me when I need to find information such as who in the heck is LaSalle and Wichita State? This match up looks as if it were a preferential first round NIT game yet they are forty minutes from a chance to play for the final four.

Two:  Indiana and Miami had to gut out wins to reach the Sweet Sixteen and the Hurricanes and the Hoosiers have two of the best point guards in the nation.  Shane Larkin is arguably the best player in the ACC and will be in prime time to show America what they have been missing.

Three:  Tom Izzo is one of the coolest coaches I have ever seen.  Last Saturday in a win over Memphis two of Izzo’s players were throwing towels at each other in the huddle and that was when they were winning.  CBS may have to cut to commercial quick if the Spartens find themselves trailing Coach K’s Blue Devils.

Four: I have no idea who will win the South Region, but I want one of those Golf Coats they keep talking about.  Kudos to Coach Fisher for congratulating Florida state on the win.  I did not know the ACC received five bids to the tournament.
