Well yesterday concluded the Tar Heels season with yet another loss to Kansas. It was the second consecutive season the Jayhawks sent the Tar Heels back home early. Without a championship to claim, three important players on this year’s team are now pondering their uncertain future.
Last year, James Michael McAdoo nearly left premature to the NBA Draft after a solid post season. He was projected to be a lottery pick in this year’s draft before the start of the season, but that changed quickly after a horrid start to the season. McAdoo learned quickly that he wasn’t as good as he thought and now he’s looking at low-first round selection if he enters the draft.
PJ Hairston, started the year as the best player on the bench, but would end the season as the best starter on the team. He just exploded offensively and became a huge asset through the season to deliver for North Carolina. The last thing anyone on the opposing side of the court wanted to see was Hairston light his fire and just start shooting from any where, because he would make most of them if not all of them. While he turned out to be the best player on the team in the end, he still isn’t projected to be a first round pick. Of the entire team, Hairston is the most ready player to leave the team, but I hope he stays because next year will really good for him and the Tar Heels.
Until the emergence of Hairston and his three point shot, Reggie Bullock was the hot shooter for North Carolina. While Hairston became the dominant shooter for the Tar Heels, Bullock was still a very important piece to the puzzle. He, like Hairston, is only projected to be a second round draft pick. He too, in my opinion, is NBA ready, but I hope he stays.
If we can get these guys to return and play with the recruits that potentially could include Andrew Wiggins…North Carolina will be one force to be reckoned with. Only time will tell, and I would asked what the opinion of our readers are, but I’m confident I know the opinion of most!
