UNC advances despite turnovers
P.J. Hairston, left hand bandaged and all, picked up where he left off in the ACC tournament, torching Villanova to the tune of 23 points (7-of-11 shooting, 5-of-7 from 3-point range) while making big plays down the stretch. He also led the team with five rebounds and three steals. The sophomore from Greensboro, N.C., has scored at least 20 points in four of his last six games. (Fox Sports Carolinas)

UNC, Duke Begin the March
Duke and North Carolina moved on, while N.C. State got pushed out of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. UNC advanced in the South Regional in up-and-down fashion. The Tar Heels led by 20 points in the first half only to see Villanova rally to tie the game in the second half. But UNC played well down the stretch to post the win. (Durham Herald-Sun)

Coach Williams is now 23-0 in the first round of sixty-four in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to extending that record, Coach Williams earned his 700th career win as a head coach.

Both North Carolina’s best asset and most glaring liability played prominent roles here on Friday night against Villanova. In the end, the Tar Heels ability to shoot from the perimeter outweighed their inability to rebound, and UNC escaped with an 78-71 victory in the second round of the NCAA tournament. P.J. Hairston scored 23 points, James Michael McAdoo added 17 and North Carolina unleashed a flurry of 3-pointers to subdue gritty Villanova 78-71 in the NCAA tournament Friday night, giving coach Roy Williams his 700th career victory. The victory set up a possible dream matchup in the third round for Kansas fans, who have been jamming the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City. (
