Beyond the Endzone: NFL Mock Draft Picks 1 and 2

Every April NFL exerts run through the list of teams in the the first round of the NFL draft and predict about as accurately as Dwight Howard at the end of the game on the free throw line.  So with my infinite wisdom of the NFL and knowing I could be be the Bobby Bethard of our time it is time for Haley to roll out his mock draft of not who the teams will take but who they should take and why.

1. Chiefs : The Kansas City Chiefs are in desperate need of quarterback play and being in the number one spot makes it very tempting to select a quarterback to attempt to correct all that is wrong in Kansas City.  With Denver having all pro Peyton Manning, pressure will be there to draft a quarterback. The problem with this year’s draft class is there is not an Andrew Luck or an RG3 to select with the overall number one pick. If the Chiefs keep the number one pick which I believe should be traded more more picks then they need to take the best player in the draft who I believe is Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel. Why not a quarterback here you may ask? Geno Smith and Tyler wilson are solid QB’s, but are they number one overall pick quality?  The last thing a franchise can do is reach on a quarterback this high in the draft.  The reason is teams will stick with a top QB longer than they will other positions because they based everything on the player from scheme to surrounding personnel.

2. Jaguars: The Jacksonville Jaguars are in as much of dissaray as the Kansas City Chiefs where one player is not going to define them as a team, but they need to start building the talent.  The Jaguars are in a division that includes Matt Schaub, Andrew Luck and Jake Lockler and the Jaguars need an effective pass rusher playing those quarterbacks six times a year.  Florida States Bjoern Werner is a physical player who can both stop the run and put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
