UNC Basketball: Ways That UNC Can Avenge Their Loss To Virginia

Today will be the second meeting between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Virginia Cavaliers. However, the game will be played in the Dean E. Smith Center this time. In the previous match-up, Virginia beat North Carolina 61-52. Joe Harris led Virginia with 19 points and five rebounds. Reggie Bullock led UNC with 22 points and five rebounds.

I would like to think that the Tar Heels have a different team now. In UNC’s most recent game against Duke, head coach Roy Williams started P.J. Hairston. I was glad to see him do this, because this opens up Carolina’s offense. It did a great deal, although Duke still won the game. I expect for Roy to stick with this lineup. In addition, P.J. will have a big game today.

In order for UNC to beat UVA today, they need to improve in every area. In the previous game this season, Carolina shot 37.3% from the field (19-51), 29.4% from three-point range (5-17) and 52.9% from the free throw line (9-17). UNC cannot beat UVA with these numbers.

In addition, Carolina needs to key in on Harris. He is Virginia’s star. He is literally “Mr. Do-It-All.” In the previous game, Harris was 7-11 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range and 3-6 from the free throw line. He was Virginia’s only player who scored in double figures. The bottom line is: shut down Joe Harris and Carolina wins the game.

North Carolina is starting to feel themselves now. Against Duke, UNC was very confident. The focal points in the offense should be Reggie Bullock and P.J. Hairston. James Michael McAdoo needs to be a third option, in my opinion.
