North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and assistant Hubert Davis visited Rashad Vaughn in Minnesota tonight and officially offered Vaughn a scholarship to UNC. Vaughn a 6-6, 200 pound shooting guard from Minneapolis, MN is one of five uncommitted prospects in the 2014 class with an offer from UNC joining fellow shooting guard Theo Pinson, small forwards Justin Jackson and Justise Winslow and center Jahlil Okafor. The Heels have one commitment thus far in point guard Joel Berry.
Vaughn scored 51 points in front of Carolina assistant coach C.B. McGrathand head coach Roy Williams went to watch him on January 5th but had to board a plane and didn’t have time to talk with Vaughn after the game. Vaughn currently has offers from Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Maryland, Kansas, Florida, Syracuse and hometown Minnesota.
UNC is a favorite to land Vaughn especially now that he holds an offer. The Tar Heels are also in the lead for Justin Jackson of Texas and will host him on an official visit on March 3rd. Personally I don’t see Vaughn or Jackson waiting long to commit considering the perimeter need and potential early playing time for perimeter players in the 2014 class. UNC will also host Devin Booker on February 23rd and have also been linked to D’Angelo Russell, Grayson Allen and Jalen Lindsey.
