Trey Lyles Lists Top Five; Eliminates UNC from Consideration

*Correction, Lyles lists his top SIX*

2014 five star power forward Trey Lyles, formally a Indiana commit listed his top six on Instagram tonight and lists  Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Butler, UCLA, and Duke.  Lyles is the #5 rated overall player in the 2014 class.

Lyles to UNC has always been a long shot, he never received an offer from Roy Williams but was planning on visiting Chapel Hill at one point.  Carolina has a lot of depth on the inside with freshman Joel James, Brice Johnson with Kennedy Meeks and Isiah Hicks coming in the 2013 class.

I recently published a column outlining why I didn’t think Lyles would be a good idea for UNC in the 2014 class.  UNC needs perimeter talent with Dexter Strickland graduating this year, Reggie Bullock graduates after next season and P.J. Hairston will be a senior in 2014 if he chooses to stay in school that long.  UNC also does not have a perimeter player in their 2013 recruiting class although they are pursuing Andrew Wiggins he is more than likely a one and done that won’t be around in 2014.

UNC has secured one commitment thus far in point guard Joel Berry in the 2014 class and have offers out to Justise Winslow, Justin Jackson, Theo Pinson and Jahlil Okafor.
