Three star Wide Receiver Ryan Switzer of Charleston, WV has signed his letter of intent to play college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Switzer chose to play for Larry Fedora at UNC over West Virginia and Penn State. Switzer chose UNC just six weeks after his he was extended an offer by the program after a long courting from both West Virginia and Penn State. After a visit to Chapel Hill the weekend of March 24-25th Switzer cancelled a visit to State College and committed to UNC on March 28th.
Switzer has made several visits to campus since his original verbal commitment in March and has always been viewed as a rock solid verbal. Before that he made an unofficial visit to West Virginia and Penn State but saw enough after he went to Chapel Hill.
Swtizer was named to the Semper Fi-All American Bowl where he was classified as a match up nightmare and caught the game winning TD. He was also named a Parade All American after winning his second consecutive Kennedy award. He ran the ball 206 times for 2,379 yards and 32 touchdowns, caught 20 passes for 253 yards and four scores, intercepted three passes and returned each for touchdowns. His junior year in 2011, Switzer had 298 carries for 2,796 yards and 40 TDs, caught 10 passes for 149 yards and two scores, intercepted four passes and returned two for touchdowns.
This marks the ninth signing of the day for Carolina? Switzer is listed as an athlete who played runningback mostly in high school but will play receiver in college. He is one of three receiver commits.
Switzer will be one of many players fighting for playing time in a talented North Carolina receiving group. Erik Highsmith is gone but the team will have T.J. Thorpe back from injury and Quinshad Davis expects to be a star in his sophomore year. Expect Switzer to have at least some offensive role this season given Fedoras knack for finding roles for talented players regardless of the depth chart.
