Today, 3 star safety Donnie Miles has signed his letter of intent to play college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Miles is 5-11, 200 lbs from Suwanee, GA and is the latest Tar Heel to officially join Larry Fedora’s already nationally renowned class. Miles becomes the eighth player to sign his LOI with UNC today
Donne Miles chose to play for Coach Fedora at UNC over schools that included arch rival Duke and SEC power South Carolina. Miles’s final list consisted of Duke, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Kentucky was another school that tried to recruit Miles after his commitment to UNC on March 20, 2013, but Miles never wavered and said he was “100% a Tar Heel” when asked about it in an interview last August. Donnie didn’t take his official visit until a couple weeks ago on January 18th.
Miles played both ways in high school and was considered an athlete by most schools that recruited him. His ball skills combined with his versatility will make him an instant impact player for Coach Fedora on a secondary that often struggled in 2012. Miles also has great speed. His forty time was timed at 4.47 seconds and he posted a 4.36 shuttle. His speed allows him to cover deep threats at receiver down the field and should give him opportunities to contribute in special team situations as well.
