Football Recruiting: QB Mitch Trubisky Signs LOI With North Carolina

Quarterback Mitch Trubisky has signed his letter of intent to play college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.  Trubisky is one of four players in the 2013 class that have enrolled early and already signed, Keeping It Heel is profiling them along with each prospects who signs his LOI today.

Trubisky chose to play for Larry Fedora at UNC over several other top programs such as Alabama and Ohio State.  Trubisky verbally committed to UNC in May of last year and enrolled in Chapel Hill early and has already begun taking classes.  Before he left for UNC a mock signing day was held for him on January 4th at his high school in Ohio.

Here’s a quote from Trubisky on choosing UNC over his hometown Buckeyes

Well, there kind of was. They had a quarterback commit before I was ready to commit so after they had their quarterback, I started to look elsewhere. I found North Carolina and I really liked it, I love the system and the coaches and I was ready to pull the trigger at that time so I decided on North Carolina. There has been some pressure back and forth but I am very pleased with my decision.

The state of Ohio Mr. Football has visited UNC several times since verbally committing in May.  His commitment to the program has never wavered.  He recently tweeted his annoyance at other college programs for continuing to send him recruiting emails despite already being enrolled at Carolina.  Trubisky is among the top 10 passers in Ohio history with 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns

Trubisky is in the only QB in the 2013 class for Carolina?  With Bryn Renner back for his senior season with UNC and Marquis Williams entering his sophomore season Trubisky will likely fill only an emergency role on the roster as a freshman although his athleticism does make it possible for him to contribute in other ways.   He is the most prolific passer in the Greater Cleveland area, becoming the first to pass for more than 9,000 career yards tallying more than 4,000 yards as a senior.

Keeping It Heel had a chance to sit down with Trubisky a couple of times since his commitment you can access those interviews HERE and HERE.
