UNC Four Corners: Marcus Paige's Scoring, Jackson Simmons Hustle, James Michael McAdoo finds Groove

One: Marcus Paige caught fire Saturday scoring 19 points connecting four times from down down.  Paige was the most confident I have seen him in ACC play knowing when to pass, when to shoot and when to drive. Well except that last drive in regulation. Marcus what were you doing you are going to cause us to take blood pressure medicine.  Paige was brilliant in overtime scoring eight of his nineteen points to cap off the 72-60 Tar Heel win.

Two: There has much fuss over the amount of minutes Jackson Simmons is receiving from Roy Williams.  Simmons was solid Saturday on both ends of the floor and his “heady” play was noticed with being in the right spots for loose balls and understanding movement inside the zone to help free up shooters.  Bryce Johnson is talented, but at 185 pounds he continues to try and back bigger players down in the post shooting quick fade away jumpers.  His best production came off guard penetration where he had a solid “and one” and a tip in offensive rebound.  ACC post players are bigger and stronger than the out of conference teams UNC played and Johnson is going to have to recognize when his best opportunities to score are.

Three: James Michael McAdoo found his groove Saturday making shot after shot from the foul line.  McAdoo is clutch from fifteen feet in and hopefully by exhibiting this range Saturday he will use this in his arsenal to drive to the basket.  McAdoo was as patient as we have seen him this year, and remember it was a moment in late January last year where McAdoo started to find his groove.

Four: The tar Heels are 5-3 in the ACC ahead of NC State.  Just because the Tar heels lost in Raleigh last week does not mean anything has changed in the Triangle. Despite beating Duke and North Carolina the Wolfpack are in the role of chasing down the Blues yet again.  They had Miami on the ropes, but could not put them away.  There is a lot of basketball to play, but NC State travels to Durham Thursday in virtually a must win game for NC State.
