UNC Basketball Recruiting: 2016 Seven Footer Raekwon Long Watches the Tar Heels

Class of 2016 Seven Footer Raekwon Long of Charlotte North Carolina (no that is not a typo, yes a seven foot tall high school freshman actually exists) took in the UNC-Virginia Tech game and was seen talking to Carolina coaches after the game.

Beyond the pure amazement of a seven footer in ninth grade being more than a fairy tale Long is a terrific shot blocker, a good rebounder, unselfish, has good court vision and basketball instincts.  His basketball IQ is high and his footwork is amazing considering how young he is and the amount of adjusting he has had to do consider the sheer amount of growth spurts this young man has had to go through.

It’s obviously very early in the 2016 class and the focus is now on the 2014 class and getting a kick start with the 2015 group.  The Tar Heels have offered just one player in the 2015 group in power forward Ivan Rabb.  Don’t expect an offer to Long or anyone else in the 2016 group anytime soon but it’s nice to see mutual interest in a player with so much potential.
