UNC Basketball: Should Program Name Something After Roy Williams?

While rooting for Maryland to defeat Duke on Saturday afternoon I had a thought when a ball handler stopped on the coach K court logo.  Should North Carolina name something after coach Roy Williams?  We all know that UNC plays in the Dean Smith Center, should they play on Roy Williams court?

Now that I’ve posed the question a quick disclosure, no I do not put Roy on the same level as Dean.  I’m not sure if I ever could, if Roy won another five titles before retiring and sent another 25 players to the NBA, I’m still not sure.  Circumstances are just different, Dean made this program, Roy is holding it up, with honor I might add.

It’s almost like the Alabama football program.  Bear Bryant is the Godfather, does that mean Nick Saban shouldn’t be honored as the best of this era?  Would Bama fans bat an eye if something was named after Saban?

I’m not sure if it should be the court, maybe the locker room, the student section or what, but something should be named after Roy Williams.  Roy is a HOF coach with seven Final Four appearances, two NCAA Titles, 27 NBA players, 675 wins and 21 NCAA Tournament appearances in 24 seasons.

Again, Roy is not Dean in my eyes and maybe he never will be but I think he deserves a permanent honor at UNC in some way shape or form.
