UNC Baseball: 3B Colin Moran Spotlight

The North Carolina Tar Heels have been named the preseason #1 team in the country by Baseball America and Perfect Game.  Junior third baseman Colin Moran is back to lead the way for UNC.

Moran is the leader of the offense and an excellent 3B who led the Heels with a .365 batting average, 11 doubles, 35 RBIs and three home runs.  As a freshman Moran racked up a ton of accolades including Baseball America Freshman of the Year , Perfect Game Freshman Hitter of the Year, Baseball America First Team All-America, Perfect Game First Team All-America, ABCA Second Team All-America, Baseball America and NCBWA Freshman All-America, ACC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ACC selection.

With Moran out with a wrist injury last season the Tar Heels offense sputtered and the team had to rely heavily on their pitching to win games.  Moran is one of the top hitters in the country and a true five tool player with a bright future in professional baseball.  Moran has an excellent plate approach, great discipline has a nice natural swing, can hit to all fields and projects as a player that will only continue to develop.

Moran will be a top candidate to go #1 overall in the MLB Draft after he completes his junior year at UNC although often times high school prospects end up being taken ahead of college players due to their potential these days, Moran will still be a top end of the first round pick by someone.

For now he remains the leader on the top ranked Tar Heels team, if UNC is going to fulfill their high expectations they need Moran healthy and on the top of his game all season.
